Noted Kannada writer Baraguru Ramachandrappa said 20th century was the century of humanity, but 21st century has become a century of communalism.

Delivering a talk in a May Day program organised by CITU (Centre of Indian Trade Unions) at Tumakuru city on Sunday, Mr. Ramachandrappa remarked, “Communal forces are destroying communal harmony in the country.”

He remarked that the government's social and economic policies were not in favour of working class people, the real voters.

Mr. Ramachandrappa said that though farmers are just five per cent of population in United States of America, they get 26 per cent subsidy. Nearly 60 per cent of the Indian population are into farming, the subsidy extended to the community is just 2.33 per cent.

CITU leaders from Tumakuru district unit Syed Mujeeb, N.K. Subramanya, S. Raghavendra, Gulzar Banu and others were present.
