The Consortium of Medical, Engineering, and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) claimed to have averted an attempt at seat blocking by candidates from Rajasthan during the counselling process which began here Thursday for rank holders of the consortium’s Postgraduate Entrance Test (PGET).

A press release said COMEDK received a fax from Rajasthan that nine candidates from that State, with higher ranking, were trying to block the seats.

Subsequently, the verification officers were alerted. “A candidate, Muralidhar Kumawat, with COMEDK rank number 42 has attempted to take a seat in one of the member institutions. He was also one of the nine mentioned in the fax. On enquiry, it was found that he tried to take a seat and then sell it for Rs. 5 lakh.”

On further questioning of the candidate, the Central Crime Branch came out with a list of another 11 candidates suspected to be involved in a similar subterfuge. However, the others did not turn up for the counselling, probably alerted about the first candidate being nabbed.
