College students protest, angered by ‘defamatory’ reportage

March 17, 2013 08:46 am | Updated 08:46 am IST - Bangalore:

Angered by the alleged outrageous and defamatory portrayal of their college by a private Kannada news channel on Friday night, hundreds of students and faculty staged a protest outside the channel’s office on Crescent Road in Bangalore on Saturday.

‘Reputation at stake’

A protester told The Hindu “The channel had captured visuals of random students entering the college premises and has not even bothered to blur their faces or the name of the college. It is a question of the girls’ reputation now.” The students also said the reporter concerned failed to turn up when they demanded an explanation. Instead, it was her colleagues who spoke with the principal.
