Staff and students of Mount Carmel College in Vasanthanagar here on Thursday paid homage to P. Ruchita, the postgraduate student who collapsed in class and died on Tuesday.
Ruchita, a first year student of the Master of Science in Life Sciences, collapsed minutes after entering the classroom. She was taken to the nearby Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital where she was declared brought dead.
The college held a prayer meet on Thursday in her memory. Besides paying floral tributes, students recited verses from the Bhagavad Gita, the Bible and the Koran. Her friends recalled how her priority was love for her family and life. “Ruchita knew the essence of life and valued it a lot,” said one.
Although she was just three weeks old at the college, Ruchita had created an impression amongst the teachers. “She was punctual, responsible, courageous and meticulous,” a lecturer said.
Meanwhile, Ruchita's father Surendra Pal Singh, an ophthalmologist from Valsar in Gujarat, his wife, and daughter Kanika collected her body from the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital on Wednesday to perform the last rites.
The High Grounds Police are awaiting the autopsy report to ascertain the cause of her death.
