The management of the Dayananda Sagar College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Kumaraswamy Layout, has suspended two students following a complaint of ragging in the college — the complainant, Siddharth Kumar Singh, and Dharmender, one of the accused.
An internal inquiry has also been ordered into the incident.
R. Janardhan, senior executive vice-president, Dayananda Sagar Institutions, told The Hindu that they would be suspended until the inquiry committee files its report.
He also said Siddharth had written an apology letter to the college for having approached the police before approaching the college authorities. “Had he done so, we could have investigated the matter earlier as we had access to all of them,” he said.
Maintaining that it was not a case of ragging, but actually a case of “old rivalry,” Mr. Janardhan said, “The two boys, one who is in the first year and one in the third year, are from the same village (in Bihar) and were neighbours here too. The incident happened outside the campus. We have an anti-ragging cell in place, but what happens outside the campus is beyond our control.”
