A day after miscreants vandalised St. Francis De Sales Church in Hebbagodi, off Hosur Road in Bangalore, the State Government has ordered a probe by the Corps of Detectives (CoD) into the incident.

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Friday informed the Legislative Assembly that the Government would conduct a probe by the CoD into the attack on the church. “We will refer it (probe) to the CoD,” he said and added that he would make a detailed statement on the issue later.

Mr. Yeddyurappa on Thursday told the Assembly that the Government had initiated action to nab those involved in the attack and that “stern action” would be taken against those indulging in such activities. He said “such attacks are being perpetrated by those wanting to tarnish the image of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government.”

Miscreants on Thursday vandalised a church and desecrated two statues of Jesus and Mary placed in a grotto and damaged window panes.

The Opposition Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) lashed out at the Government for its failure to maintain law and order and demanded a probe by the CoD.

Bangalore Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari issued shoot-at-sight orders against those found to be trespassing into churches, mosques and temples or found to be committing theft or indulging in any mischief.
