Union Minister for Power and Corporate Affairs M. Veerappa Moily on Saturday defended the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government’s decision in the allocation of coal blocks during 2004-2009.
He told presspersons on Saturday that the Comptroller and Auditor-General’s (CAG) assumption holding the government responsible for the loss of revenue to the tune of Rs.1.86 lakh crore was not right, as the Coal Ministry took decisions in accordance with the law.
“The CAG report is based on estimates and distant from reality,” he said.
Mr. Moily said the CAG was not the final authority to hold the government to account for the loss of revenue, as it had to be vetted by Public Accounts Committee.
