CM’s interview on Ravi’s call details is breach of privilege: Kumaraswamy

Woman IAS officer being intimidated by govt., he alleges

March 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 09:33 am IST - Bengaluru:

Taking exception to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s interview to a Kannada daily stating that IAS officer D.K. Ravi had made 44 calls to a woman IAS officer just before his death, former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy alleged that making such a statement when the CID was conducting a probe and the legislature was in session amounted to breach of privilege.

Alleging that a “powerful person” had called Ravi a fortnight ago and threatened to “eliminate” him, Mr. Kumaraswamy maintained at a press conference that the government was trying to hush up the case by confining the scope of the CID inquiry to the calls made two days before Ravi’s death. The CID was focussing only on the calls with an intention of misleading people by linking a woman IAS officer with the deceased officer just because they had called each other, he said. Terming this as character assassination, Mr. Kumaraswamy alleged that the woman officer was being “intimidated” by the government.

BJP dharna

The Opposition BJP has announced an indefinite dharna from Sunday in Bengaluru till a CBI probe is ordered. This is in addition to the padayatra to be taken out along with the JD(S) on March 24 from the officer’s native village Doddakoppalu to Bengaluru.
