CM takes class for officials

June 17, 2014 12:31 am | Updated November 16, 2021 06:57 pm IST - Bangalore:

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday “took a class” for BBMP officials and even held out a punishment, making them stand for 45 minutes, during a discussion on the garbage crisis.

Given inputs over the mismanagement in garbage disposal by BBMP, Mr. Siddaramaiah warned officials of stern action if they were not sincere in their work.

He questioned top officials on their activities in the previous week. “Show me your diaries. How many inspections have you conducted to monitor garbage disposal in your area? You all are enjoying BBMP facilities while the government faces criticism for your inefficiency. Although the previous government promised to stop dumping in Mandur within a year, you have done nothing. You should be on the field from 6.30 a.m. onwards to monitor proper disposal.”

When Mayor B.S. Satyanarayana and Commissioner M. Lakshminarayana said they did not have the powers to take action against officials as most are on deputation from other departments, the Chief Minister directed them to send their recommendations in this regard to the government.
