CM puts onus on Deputy Commissioners to protect farmers from money-lenders

September 01, 2015 04:05 pm | Updated March 28, 2016 02:46 pm IST - BENGALURU:

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday fixed the responsibility of protecting farmers from the harassment of private money lenders and financial institutions on district administration, especially the deputy commissioners.

Presiding over a day-long meeting of regional commissioners, deputy commissioners of districts and chief executive officers of zilla panchayats convened here to take stock of the drought situation, the Chief Minister pointed out that there were instances of banks and financial institutions insulting defaulting farmers by putting up their photos on their notice boards. He directed the district administration to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

He directed the assistant commissioners of sub-divisions to give priority to providing compensation to families of farmers who have committed suicide. He warned of initiating disciplinary action against them if there was any delay in disbursing compensation.
