In a bid to strengthen the intelligence wing, Chief Minister Siddaramaiaih said that the State government would create a separate cadre for the Intelligence Department and recruit staff exclusively for it.

Speaking at the annual review meeting at the State police headquarters on Saturday , Mr. Siddaramaiah said that the State IB cadre would work only for the department, which would enhance the quality and capability of the department.

"We have decided to make a separate cadre for intelligence. Separate recruitment and training will be done to make the Intelligence Department efficient," Mr. Siddaramaiah said. As a first step, the State government would recruit 100 officers this year who would be provided with exclusive training to work for the department, he said.

Mr. Siddaramaiah also announced that the State government would scrap the Excise Enforcement and Lottery Prohibition Wing, which would be merged with the district police.

The squads working in the districts would henceforth report to the Superintendent of Police of the respective district . So far the wing is working independently led by an officer of the Rank of Inspector General of Police, assisted by two SPs, and six Dy SPs.
