Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister K.J. George on Saturday aborted their plans to fly to Mysuru by helicopter after fumes emanated from the helicopter in Bengaluru on Saturday morning.

Police officials said five minutes after the engine was started, fumes were seen emanating from the front portion of the helicopter and soon after this, the Chief Minister alighted and proceeded to Mysuru from HAL airport in a car.

Mysuru City Police Commissioner M.A. Saleem said their arrival for the silver jubilee celebrations of Mysuru City Police Commissionerate had been delayed due to a technical snag in the helicopter.

Government officials in Mysuru said smoke was seen rising from the helicopter, forcing the cancellation of the flight. "They are now coming by road," said an official.

Mr. Siddaramaiah is due to participate in a series of programmes including inauguration of a new building for Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts (CAVA), launch of developmental programmes in the city and a meeting with government officials in Mysuru.
