July 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - BENGALURU:

A clinic on Magadi Main Road run by a doctor who claimed to be a chikungunya expert was on Monday closed by the Health Department.

Bangalore Urban District Health Officer (DHO) M. Rajani filed a criminal case at Agrahara Police Station under the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act, 2007 against Dr. Veeresh, who ran Laxmi Clinic, for not registering with the Karnataka Medical Council. Dr. Rajani went to the clinic on Monday following a complaint that the doctor was operating in a cramped space.

She said, “We visited the place and found that he was running the clinic in a small place without ventilation. Besides, he was cheating patients who had only viral fever by saying that they had chikungunya. Upon investigation, we found he was prescribing painkillers and steroids, which relived patients of pain and made him famous.”
