The Karnataka High Court on Monday directed the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to clear the encroachments in the Pantharapalya lake near Hoskerehalli and file an action taken report within a week along with photographic evidence.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice B.V. Nagarathna issued the direction while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) petition saying that the local Ashraya Committee, headed by MLA M. Srinivas, had distributed the sites on the area that was part of the lake.

The Bench also directed that no sites under scheme should be distributed on the 2 acres and one gunta of the tank bed area.

Fresh encroachments

The court was told that despite the BBMP fencing it to develop the area as Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Park, fresh encroachments have taken place.
