The city's planetarium and space agency ISRO rolled out a Festival of Mars on Wednesday.

The festival, titled 'India's March to Mars', celebrates the planned entry of India's first spacecraft into the Martian orbit next Wednesday.

S.R.Patil, Karnataka Minister for IT & Biotechnology, launched the festival at the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium in the presence of U.R.Rao, celebrated space scientist and former ISRO chairman.

For over nearly four weeks until October 12, the planetary extravaganza will offer youngsters and space buffs a range of activities such as making a Mars rover, rocket models, workshops, demonstration of a satellite launch, posters of satellites and rockets, thematic exhibitions on space and Mars and glimpses of the Indian space programme and its uses. Eminent scientists are scheduled to speak during this period.

Details can be obtained from the planetarium: 22379725 & 22266084 (except Mondays, alternate Tuesdays & general holidays.)
