Chief Minister Siddaramaiah dedicated eight sweeping machines to the city on Monday.
These heavy-duty mechanical sweeping machines and one mini-mechanical sweeping machine will be used to clear garbage, dust and mud on the roads and road dividers. They have been bought under the Chief Minister's Nagarothana Scheme.
They were flagged off in front of the Vidhana Soudha in the presence of Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George, Mayor G. Padmavathi, Deputy Mayor Anand and BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad. Each heavy-duty mechanical sweeping machine costs ₹1.9 crore while the smaller machine was bought for ₹48 lakh.
The machines are fitted with GPS systems and a control room will be set up to monitor their working.
"The equipment will be used to clean highways and major arterial roads between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.," said a BBMP official.
