Citizens unite to fight for Bengaluru’s lakes

Is garbage being dumped near your neighbourhood lake? Or sewage being let into it untreated? There is a group that can help citizens take the issue up and fight it legally. The core group of ‘UnitedBengaluru’, a coalition of citizens’ groups committed to protecting the city, will step in to ensure that your fight is taken to a logical end.

At an interactive session here on Saturday, Sridhar Pabbisetty, CEO, Namma Bengaluru Foundation, said, “It was difficult for the lake groups and the NGO to get in touch with the officials of their respective lakes. We have created a database for all the responsible officials to whom they need to get in touch for any concern of their lakes.”

N.S. Mukunda, founding president, Citizens’ Action Forum, added, “Lakes were built by our ancestors for water consumption by citizens, and now we all know the condition of our lakes. There are a lot of activists and NGOs that are working for the cause of the city and it is time to get them all together to fight for a cause.”

Citizens can reach out to unitedbengaluru17@gmail.com to get in touch with the core group, consisting of Mr. Mukunda, Mr. Pabbisetty, Usha Rajagopalan from the Puttenahalli Neighbourhood Lake Improvement Trust, and architect Naresh Narasimhan, among others.
