CID to probe illegal sand transportation

January 06, 2015 12:31 pm | Updated 12:31 pm IST - BENGALURU:

Facing flak for its alleged inaction against the menace of illegal sand extraction and transportaion, the government on Saturday ordered a probe by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) into illegal transportation of sand from border districts such as Kodagu, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Belagavi and Vijayapura to neighbouring States, Kerala and Maharashtra.

The CID has been asked to complete the probe in one month and submit the report to the government.

The government, in its notification, said the CID probe has been ordered in view of the discussion held in the recently concluded Assembly session.

Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy had raised the issue in the session and demanded a CID probe. “When I alleged that Ministers are involved in illegal sand transportation, there was absolute silence from the treasury bench,” he said.
