CID to have anti human trafficking cell

November 13, 2009 02:32 pm | Updated 02:33 pm IST - BANGALORE:

The Karnataka Police have decided to set up an exclusive anti human trafficking wing in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and a proposal has been sent in this regard to the State government.

This has been stated in an interim report filed by the State police before the Karnataka High Court.

The High Court had on October 21, 2009 asked the State police to look into cases of missing girls from the State and file a report.

In its report, the Director-General and Inspector-general of Police said Deputy Inspector General of Police, Malini Krishnamurthy, has already been appointed as a nodal officer for anti human trafficking cases.

It said an exclusive cell is necessary in the CID as a large number of cases of missing children and women are being filed. It hoped that the cell would prove effective in solving such cases.

It said the statistics regarding cases of missing persons and cases of human trafficking are being collected by the CID from all the districts. Information is also being collected about unclaimed or unidentified bodies of women and children reported since 2005 and they are being matched with data on missing persons.
