After several anxious parents and child rights activists made frantic calls to the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) regarding the death of a 10th standard student of National Public School, HSR Layout, the commission has decided to take up a suo motu case.
Edward Thomas, a member of the commission, said they had sought a report regarding the suicide of Monali Mahala of NPS, HSR Layout.
Two letters
The girl allegedly committed suicide after the school sent two letters claiming she “indulged in objectionable behaviour with a male classmate on the school premises”.
Fr. Thomas said he had sought a detailed report from the Block Education Officer concerned and the police. “Based on the report received from them, we will decide what the next step would be,” he said.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death and said that they had received no specific complaint regarding the incident.
