The Jalahalli police have detained three employees of the international school where a three-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted on Tuesday.

According to the police, the three, including school attendant Gundanna (45), have been detained as prime suspects based on their suspicious behaviour and contradictory statements during the course of the investigation. “Though their involvement is not confirmed, we have detained them for further questioning,” a senior police officer told The Hindu .

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Malleswaram sub-division) Sarah Fatima, who is heading the investigation, is assisted by a team of Central Crime Branch sleuths while ACP (Cubbon Park Sub-Division) Shobha Rani is coordinating with the family and counselling the child to ascertain the identity of the accused, said Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Alok Kumar. A team of police is analysing the CCTV footage.

Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi told presspersons that the child was dropped off at school by her mother around 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday. When she was picked up a few hours later, the child was crying and complained of fever. “It was after they reached home that the child complained about an uncle hurting her,” he said.

The mother took the child to a nearby hospital where doctors found bruises on her private parts. Following this, the mother filed a complaint with the Jalahalli police, he added.
