Chief Secretary recuses himself from selection panel meeting

March 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:58 am IST - Bengaluru:

In a dramatic turn of events, Chief Secretary Kaushik Mukherjee recused himself from the meeting of the committee to select the Director-General and Inspector-General of Police (DG&IGP) after one of the contenders to the top post alleged bias by the Chief Secretary against him.

Sushanth Mahapatra on Friday evening wrote to the Chief Minister asking him to exclude the Chief Secretary from the selection committee. In his letter, he alleged that Chief Secretary Kaushik Mukherjee, who wrote his Annual Confidential Report (ACR) for 2013-14, deliberately gave him only seven out of 10 as he was biased against him.

“While I held charge as DGP (Training) during the period, Mr. Mukherjee has written in my ACR that I did exceptional work in building houses for police personnel and gave me seven on 10. Its laughable,” he said, adding that he was considering to seek a sanction to prosecute the Chief Secretary.

Chief Secretary Kaushik Mukherjee said that though the allegations made against him were frivolous, he recused himself from the meeting.
