A charge sheet indicting Congress MLA and former Minister D.K. Shivakumar in a land scam was filed by the Lokayukta police before the Special Lokayukta Court on Thursday. The charge sheet says that no evidence was found to link the former Chief Minister and BJP leader B.S. Yeddyurappa to the case.
The investigation was taken up by the Lokayukta police on a March 7 directive of the Lokayukta court which found prima facie evidence of irregularities in a private complaint filed by activist T.J. Abraham.
According to Mr. Abraham, the Congress leader’s 4.2 acres of land at Beniganahalli, off Old Madras Road — currently worth around Rs. 40 crore — was denotified on May 13, 2010 by the then Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa. Though considered to be political rivals, the complainant alleges that Mr. Yeddyurappa used his clout to denotify the land at Mr. Shivakumar’s behest.
The charge sheet has also indicted IAS officer Ramegowda, Senior Sub-Registrar Hameed Ali, retired tahsildar Hanumanth, retired revenue inspector K.S. Chandrashekharaiah, village accountant Doddahanumaiah and one B.K. Srinivas, who has since died.
