It was a chaotic start for the Bangalore University’s semester examination on Monday with many students not having received their admission tickets either for lack of required attendance or for not having paid college fee.
A third semester B.Com student from St. Aloysius College, Ulsoor, said he would not be allowed to write the exam which starts on Tuesday as he had attendance shortage.
Another student from Dayananda Sagar College of Arts, Science and Commerce, in her fifth semester, said that “the practice of collecting fine from students who have attendance shortage before issuing them admission ticket” was not followed this semester. “In fact, only 200 out of 500 B.Com students in my college appeared for the examination conducted on Monday,” she said.
Some students also pointed out that as some colleges that had not received admission tickets of their students from BU, they were issuing them on their own.
BU Registrar (Evaluation) R.K. Somashekhar, however, said the varsity had issued admission tickets to all the eligible candidates. He attributed the delay in issuing admission tickets to some colleges sending student admission list for approval to the varsity beyond the stipulated time. Commenting on some colleges issuing admission tickets on their own, Mr. Somashekhar said that it would create problems when the results are announced. BU will announce results of only those candidates who were issued admission tickets by the varsity. It will not announce results of those who appear for the examination with the college-issued admission tickets.
“Students who have not been issued admission tickets are either those who have attendance shortage or those who have not paid college fees,” he added.
