Changes in route alignment of Namma Metro Phase 2, near the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research and near Mahadevapura, have been described as “completely unwarranted” by an expert involved in drawing up the original plans.
Speaking to The Hindu , he said changes in route alignment would result in additional expenditure and protracted litigation. With the Planning Commission already raising questions over the high cost of Phase 2 because of underground alignment between Dairy Circle and Nagavara on the Gottigere-Nagavara line, doubts have also been raised on whether the Union Government would agree to the increased cost.
Planned project
The project was planned after careful examination of all aspects, including minimum inconvenience and maximum benefit to the public, minimum project cost and speedy completion. Thereafter the best possible alignment was suggested in the project report, the expert, who requested anonymity, told The Hindu .
He said the location of the Jayadeva interchange station for the R.V. Road-Bommasandra and Gottigere-Nagavara metro lines was “best suited” for construction, operation and also for commuters.
While only about 20- to 30-ft-wide open space within the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research Institute was to be utilised for the station, it would have benefited thousands of patients going to the hospital, he said.
The project would become costlier with acquisition of over 90 properties and would attract litigation, he warned.
Jayadeva’s concerns — increased sound and dust because of metro work — could have been addressed with the latest technology.
