Urging Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to fulfil his responsibility as the head of the State, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, MP, in an open letter, has exhorted him to meet promises of good governance and initiate changes to clean up Bengaluru.
From making land deals and contracts fully transparent to having a planned approach to the city’s development, Mr. Chandrasekhar has set a six-point agenda for Mr. Siddaramaiah. He attributed the lack of a statutory plan for the city’s development to the lack of transparency in governance, ad-hoc contracting system, vested interests and corruption.
Mr. Chandrasekhar maintained that trifurcation of the BBMP is neither the solution to city’s corruption nor its governance ills. Urging the government to conduct the polls to the BBMP on time, he said trifurcation should not be used as an excuse to delay them.
Stating that the government had failed to capitalise on ushering in transparency through the Metropolitan Planning Committee, he said the committee must be reconstituted post BBMP elections and should be allowed the freedom and resources for its independent and effective functioning.
He also urged Mr. Siddaramaiah to create a code of conduct for elected representatives and bureaucrats, besides not rewarding law breakers through schemes like Akrama-Sakrama.
