Chain snatchers at it again

Two women lost their gold chains to snatchers here Wednesday morning.

The first victim, Kumuda S. Udaykumarshankar, was accosted by two men near Ambarish Park when she was returning from her morning walk, J.P. Nagar police said.

The duo grabbed her chain worth Rs. 1.12 lakh and fled.

The second victim, Puttamma Nanjappa, was waylaid at 6.20 a.m. in Jayanagar 9{+t}{+h} Block by three men in an autorickshaw, who snatched her chain worth Rs. 50,000, Tilaknagar police said.

Dacoits held

A man, who escaped from police custody in K.R. Hospital in Mysore last year, was arrested along with four of his associates here recently.

Central Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested the fugitive, Satish alias Sathya alias Giri alias Raja Premraj (30) of Subhashnagar in Kadur taluk, and recovered from him lethal weapons, chilli powder, two cars and mobile phones. His associates have been identified as Evins Erwin alias Avio Jones (35) of Indiranagar in Coimbatore, Mohammad Riyaz alias Riyaz Syed Alvi (22) of Angadipuram of Malappuram in Kerala and Shabir Pasha (25) and Tanvir Pasha (21) from Islampur Main Road near HAL here. While Satish is an accused in 55 different cases, including attacks on policemen, the gang is facing charges in at least 100 criminal cases in Bangalore, Mysore, Hubli, Shimoga and also in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Club raided

Nine persons were arrested from the Blue Diamond Association Club near Richmond Circle here on Tuesday night for allegedly being involved in gambling.

Central Crime Branch (CCB) police seized mobile phones and Rs. 1.08 lakh from the arrested.

The main suspect, Abbas Khan, escaped the police operation, CCB police said.
