The CGK Awards instituted by Malur based Ranga Vijaya Trust were presented to two theatre personalities —N.K. Varadaraj from Kolar and G.N. Ashwath from Chickballapur district — at a functioned organised here on Tuesday.

The programme was organised to commemorate the birth anniversary of famous theatre personality C.G. Krishnaswamy, popularly known as CGK.

Inaugurating the function, ‘Samudaya’ State unit president Achyut expressed concern over growing attacks on Dalits, minorities and other sections in the name of culture and food habit.

“The Emergency four decades ago had a political tone. But, now there is undeclared emergency in the name of protecting culture and patriotism,” Mr. Achyut said.

A cultural movement to counter such attacks on the multi-culture tradition is the need of the hour, he remarked.

Writer Lakshmipathi Kolar presided over the function.
