The Karnataka Examinations Authority will on Wednesday announce the allotment of seats for students who have attended the extended second round of counselling for engineering and architecture. At the end of the second round of counselling, 8,776 engineering seats were left.
A KEA release said that 422 seats were surrendered to the government by students on Tuesday, out of which some are in medical and dental as well. An extended second round of counselling for medical seats will be held after July 31.
Even as the last date for reporting to colleges draws closer, students continued to complain about extra fee being collected from them.
A student in Mangalore, who was allotted a government seat for D Pharmacy said that the college asked her to pay Rs. 1 lakh as admission fee. “My tuition fee is supposed to be Rs. 9,000. When we went to the college thinking that Tuesday is the last day to report to the college (it has now been extended to August 5), the management asked us to pay Rs. 1 lakh. We were shocked. When we asked them why we should pay such a big amount, they said a management seat there would cost Rs. 1.75 lakh. As I have been allotted a government seat, I need to pay only Rs. 1 lakh,” the student said.
