Centralise advertisement department: Mayor

August 07, 2010 04:40 pm | Updated 04:40 pm IST - Bangalore:

Mayor S.K. Nataraj has written to Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner Siddaiah urging him to centralise the advertisement department.

According to sources, the Mayor has called for bringing all the hoardings and advertisement spaces under the control of the head office. In his letter, he said that the number of illegal hoardings had increased in the city after their management was decentralised.

He said there would be better control if the management of the advertisement department was centralised. He said that a few council members had supported his decision to centralise the advertisement department.

Recently, Janata Dal (Secular) floor leader in the BBMP Council Padmanabha Reddy claimed that illegal and unauthorised hoardings in the city were spoiling the cityscape and causing a major revenue loss to the civic authority.

Mr. Reddy said that after going around the city, he found that there were more than 4,230 hoardings in the city, with the BBMP collecting Rs. 8.23 lakh from only 1,667 hoardings.

He alleged that the department had a record of only 1,963 hoardings in the city.
