Rangoli Metro Art Centre lines up various programmes for Rajyotsava

With Kannada Rajyotsava round the corner, the Rangoli Metro Art Centre has planned a series of events to celebrate and cherish Kannada literature, poetry and culture.

On November 1, four events and exhibitions will be held at the centre. A book fair will be conducted where Kannada publishers and booksellers will be invited to showcase and sell Kannada books and their translated works.

Apart from that, a writer’s meet will be conducted between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. where people will get an opportunity to interact with Bangalore’s writers. Kavya Sanje, a poetry reading session will also be organised on the same day.

Much anticipated

Another anticipated event is “A Postcard – dialogue with Mahatma Gandhi”, an initiative that was started by BMRCL where people had written letters to Gandhi. The organisers stated that they received 1,500 postcards and 500 of them would be displayed at Gallery Belaku.

Besides the event on November 1, there are two other events in November. Bangalore Picturesque is an event which will take place between November 1 and 15 where photographs of old Bangalore will be displayed. The Rangoli Metro Art Centre has partnered with a Facebook group — Bangalore photos from a Bygone age. “These set of images are markers of time, a visual narrative that evokes nostalgia ad nutures conversations about the past in the present,” a release from BMRCL stated.

Panel discussion

Another event that is expected to give the audience a slice of the city is a panel discussion titled “Finding the past in the present”, a conversation with Chiranjeev Singh, Maya Jayapal, Suresh Moona and M. Bhaktavatsala. The panel discussion will be followed by a question and answer session on November 10 between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Visitors can also send their photographs which would be displayed at the art centre.

Speaking about the event, U.A. Vasanth Rao, General Manager (Finance), Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said, “We are trying to capture the spirit of Karnataka through a variety of events. We want make the boulevard into a cultural centre and add an academic touch to the Kannada Rajyotsava.”
