A 35-year-old driver was arrested on Monday in connection with Sunday’s hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a hotelier near Bommanahalli junction on Hosur Road.
The accused has been identified as R. Taramurthy alias Raghu, a resident of Muneshwara extension in Kudlu.
The Madiwala traffic police traced the car after studying closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage from the junction.
On June 23, Hemadri Reddy (44), a hotelier from Devarachikkanahalli, died on the spot when he was knocked down by a car while crossing the road around 4.30 a.m.
A special team was formed by the traffic police to trace the accused and the CCTV footage was put up on the Facebook page of the Bangalore City traffic police to seek clues from people who may recognise the car, said the Madiwala traffic police.
The special team also visited workshops in the city and found the vehicle (KA 51 B 176) at a service centre on Bannerghatta Road. The police then identified the driver and arrested Taramurthy and seized the vehicle.
A case under sections 279 and 304 (A) of IPC for causing death by negligence has been booked. Apart from this, a case under 134 (B) read with 187 of Motor Vehicle Act has been registered against the accused.
Drag racing
Nine teenagers, most of them pre-university students, were arrested by the Electronics City police as they were about to embark on a drag race on Hosur Road late on Monday night.
Policemen on night patrol spotted the group of students, some of whom were not wearing helmets. As they were preparing for a drag race between Koodlu Gate and Singasandra, the police approached them and took them into custody and also called their parents.
The nine were booked for violating traffic rules and their vehicles seized.
