Police have identified 156 hotspots to install surveillance cameras to track down anti-social elements. The cameras will be installed in areas where a number of chain snatching, robbery and vehicle theft cases have been reported in the past decade.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) P. Harisekharan said 156 hotspots have been identified till date. Mapping of these hotspots using GPS technology is expected to be completed in a week’s time. High definition cameras will be installed at these hotspots. This is expected to help curb crime and, more importantly, effectively track down the perpetrators. The project is being executed by a special team comprising police officers and experts in association with the Indian Institute for Human Settlements, he added.
