CCB bust cricket betting racket

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) officials on Thursday busted a cricket betting racket and arrested four bookies involved with betting during the World Cup semi-final match between India and Australia.

The scam came to light when some bookies refused to pay the winning amount of the bet to a few punters and cheated them, informed the police.

Based on the tip off, police CCB officials raided a house in Ashok Nagar and arrested Hemanth Kumar ( 38), Mukesh Kumar Jain (34), Mukesh Kumar Chand (34) and Jitendra (40).

The police have recovered cash amount of Rs. 4 lakh, 11 mobile phones and two laptops from them.

According to the police, the accused make use websites like ofbetfair.com and bet365.com to fix the bet amount. The accused obtained multiple mobile SIM cards in fake names for betting purpose and to evade the law enforcement authorities. The accused also admitted to share the winnings with bookies from Rajasthan identified as Suresh, Narayanguru and Malhotra through the Hawala channel.

A case has been registered in Ashok Nagar and further investigations are on.
