CBSE Class X results bring cheer

May 20, 2014 12:30 am | Updated 12:37 am IST - BANGALORE:

The long wait for Class X CBSE results in the State came to an unexpected end on Monday. Several Bangalore-based schools were pleasantly surprised when the results were announced without prior intimation.

Vineet Joshi, chairman, CBSE, said that the results were announced early to help students get admissions in colleges.

Scores of students bagged the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 10. However, statistics on the overall performance of students from Karnataka was not made available. The CBSE, which follows a Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), releases the results after considering the students’ scholastic and co-curricular performance in Class IX and Class X. Students have the option of taking school-based or board-based exam.

In at least three institutions — National Hill View Public School, Delhi Public School (DPS) and National Public School (NPS) Koramangala — all students had passed.

An officer of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghatan, who was tabulating the scores of KV schools in the State, said that a majority had recorded 100 per cent pass result and a sizeable number of students had secured CGPA of 10.

At DPS Bangalore South, all the 334 students who appeared for the examination passed and 96 secured a CGPA of 10. At DPS Bangalore East, all the students passed in first class and 35 secured a CGPA of 10. In DPS Bangalore North, of the 63 students in Class X, 10 scored a CGPA of 10. At National Hill View Public School, Rajarajeshwarinagar, all the students passed and 22 secured CGPA of 10. At NPS Koramangala, from among 90 students, 36 secured a CGPA of 10.

“An analysis of last year’s results showed that equal importance should be given to scholastic assessment. We conducted remedial classes from the beginning of the academic year. Each student was given feedback after various tests. This helped them enhance their grades,” said Lakshmi Rao, principal of NPS Koramangala.

Pallavi Agrawal of DPS Bangalore South, who had scored a perfect 10, said, “I paid attention in class and always clarified doubts with my teachers. Teachers were helpful and supportive. I am feeling on top of the world.”

Nidhi Satish of KV, Railway Colony, attributed her score to understanding the concepts clearly and periodically revising the lessons. She also said that the CCE helped her as the burden of the entire academic year was well distributed.

CBSE announced it would conduct post-exam counselling for students from May 20 to June 10. For details, students can call 1800118004 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.
