Protests against release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu continued in Bangalore on Sunday with several organisations demonstrating against the Union government’s direction.
Members of BSR Congress staged a demonstration at the Freedom Park and shouted slogans against the Tamil Nadu and Union governments. Several members used their blood to write a protest letter to the Prime Minister. The party’s Youth Wing president Venkatesh Gowda led the protest.
Meanwhile, members of the Karnataka Yuva Rakshana Vedike staged a hunger strike at the Dhobi Ghat, Rajajinagar. Vedike president K. Taaresh led the protest between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
At Kengeri Satellite Town, members of the Kengeri Brahmana Sabha formed a human chain at Hoysala Circle. Members chanted Vedic hymns and a shanti mantra to please Varuna. Vedic scholar Muralidhara Bhat, who commenced the Vedic chant, later said that Tamil Nadu had been raking up the Cauvery issue whenever Jayalalithaa was in power. Vedike president H.S. Sudhindra Kumar and members were present.
Members of Kumbara Kshemabhivruddhi Sangha staged a protest in front of the Town Hall. Sangha president N. Nagesh led the protesters.
Santa Josephara Snehabhivruddhi Sangha submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Governor stating that the Cauvery River Authority order directing Karnataka to release 9,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu was unscientific. Sangha president A. Arogyappa and general secretary Antony Raj said that Tamil Nadu had sufficient water storage. They urged the Prime Minister to withdraw his order.
