Security has been tightened in and around the city with 16,000 police personnel along with paramilitary forces monitoring the law and order situation in the wake of the Supreme Court hearing on the Cauvery issue on Tuesday.
Security has been especially tightened in sensitive areas, at the Kempe Gowda bus stand and railway station, and at the Attibele checkpost, with a platoon of paramilitary force deplored there.
Vehicle movement from the city and Tamil Nadu in Attibele has been suspended, putting the passengers to hardship. Hundreds of passengers were forced to walk from the border area to enter the city.
Police also held flag marches in sensitive areas.
Though the city is tense, vehicle movement is normal and shops and commercial establishments are functioning normal and no untoward incidents have been reported so far, a senior police officer said.
KSRTC buses from Majestic, K.R.Market and Satellite Town bus-stand going towards Hosur are only plying until the border. People travelling between the two States are forced to walk for over a kilometre from either side. For example, Manjula, a flower vendor from Hosur who sells at Chandapura, had to get off the bus at the border, walk towards Attibele and share an auto with another flower vendor.
Lingaraju from Jayanagar, going on official work, was stuck at the border in his car. He has decided to put off his visit to Hosur.
