The Bangalore bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) on Friday dismissed a petition filed by IPS officer B.E. Umapathy challenging the selection and appointment of Lalrokhuma Pachau as State police chief.

A bench comprising G. Shanthappa (member-judicial) and D. Prabhakaran (member-administrative) did not find lapse in the procedure followed by the State government as well as the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in selecting Mr. Pachau to the post.

Mr. Umapathy, who is the Director-General of Police of the Police Research and Restructuring Wing, had challenged selection of Mr. Pachau on various reasons, including non-consideration of entire annual confidential reports.
