Nearly ₹14 lakh was stolen from the cash room of a Bescom office on Hosur Road on Tuesday evening.

According to the Ashoknagar police, Rojar Kumar, an employee from a firm which handles cash transactions for the electricity utility, had come to the office with ₹6 lakh that he had collected from other offices, and was handed ₹8 lakh, which was the collection for the day from that office. He left the cash in the cash room, locked the room and went out for a tea break.

When officials returned 10 minutes later, they found the door had been unlocked and the cash was missing. Police suspect an insider as the thieves seemed to know that the office did not have CCTV cameras or security guards.
