“Cases booked, but how will government proceed?”

Private school managements allege that action is being taken against schools without verification

November 12, 2014 10:05 am | Updated 10:05 am IST - Bengaluru:

A day after Home Minister K.J. George reiterated that cases have been booked against over 180 schools in the city, private school managements have alleged that action is being taken against schools without verification.

“The police have to do a thorough check before filing cases. Let them (Police) have an audit of government and BBMP schools before booking cases against private schools,” D. Shashi Kumar, General Secretary of Karnataka Associated Managements of English Medium Schools, said in a press release. “Will the government and BBMP schools be booked in the same way?”

The private school managements also want to know if the police will charge sheet management representatives or principal in these cases.

Meanwhile, the first meeting of the 14-member committee headed by the Additional Chief Secretary Umesh met on Tuesday to discuss measures to improve child safety in schools. “It was decided to hasten the child safety policy, which is currently being drafted. It has also been decided to strengthen the role of parent teacher associations and school development monitoring committees,” a senior official, who participated in the meeting, said.
