Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) has booked a criminal case against the managing committee of Sadashivnagar Club for constructing structures illegally on the civic amenity site on which the club is located. The First Information Report (FIR), registered on May 17, also names officials of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) as accused for allegedly conniving with the club and allowing it to put up illegal constructions in violation of the plan. The FIR mentions that the plan was sanctioned without the approval from Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) that had leased out the CA site.

The FIR was registered based on a complaint lodged by Mallikarjun L.S., resident of Sadashivanagar.

When contacted, club’s president N. Shekhar said that no construction was put up on the space meant for car parking.

“We used the parking space as tennis court as parking was not an issue till recently. We had taken permission from BDA last year to put up parking complex as the number of members had increased. But, BDA cancelled the approved plan without assigning any reason.” Mr. Shekar added that they have moved the Karnataka High Court questioning cancellation of the approved plan.

The complainant said that in 2004, BBMP had sanctioned a plan for certain constructions on the club premises. However, the club allegedly did not provide space for parking 56 cars as per sanctioned plan and instead used this space for constructing two tennis courts. BBMP, instead of initiating action for violation of plan, widened the road in front of the club encroaching upon footpaths to enable the club members to park their cars.
