Bad roads have claimed yet another life. A 24-year-old carpenter came under the wheels of a speeding truck in Chikkajala on Sunday night after losing control of his motorcycle while negotiating a pothole.

The accident occurred on a bad stretch of Sir M. Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology Road. The deceased, Manikantachar, was a resident of Vinayaka Nagar. He was returning home after work at Rajanukunte.

Police sources said that the stretch has several potholes. Manikantachar failed to notice a pothole. As a result, he lost his balance and fell. He came under the wheels of a truck that was following his vehicle.

The truck driver fled from the spot. Passers-by took Manikantachar to a private hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Manikantachar is the second son of a couple from Chintamani. His parents are daily wagers while his elder brother is a cab driver. The Chikkajala police have seized the truck and efforts are on to trace the driver.
