The group ‘Drive without borders’ – which has been campaigning for a uniform all-India road tax – is now actively lobbying with the Centre. “We have met Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and he responded positively to our petition. We are also seeking an appointment with Congress party vice-president Rahul Gandhi to discuss the matter,” said city-based Waseem Memom, who initiated the campaign.
The group has been garnering massive support online: the Facebook group ‘Justice for Non KA registration Vehicle Owners’ has more than 24,000 members; while, their online petition has 55,800 signatures. “There are cases of people paying Lifetime Tax in four States”, Mr. Memom said.
