Campaign Against Child Labour-Karnataka (CACL-K), in association with the Rural Literacy and Health Programme-EU-CESVI, will conduct a South Indian Regional Consultation meet on the theme “Campaign for rights of all children up to 18 years” to mark the 25th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
The consultation meet will be held at the Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chamber Building Complex, Super Market, Kalaburagi.
Speaking to presspersons, Niranjan Aradhya, Fellow, National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, said, “We need a new legislation to ban all forms of child labour up to the age of 18 years, anywhere and anytime, because performing any work is hazardous or will interfere with the child's education, or be harmful to the child's health or physical, mental, spiritual, moral and social development.”
The government should also seek opinions from children while making any legislation in respect of child rights and has to fully implement the rights of the child, he added.
Mr. Aradhya said the programme would be inaugurated by Vice Chancellor of Gulbarga University D.R. Naik, Chairperson of Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Umesh Aradhya will participate as chief guest.
On that day, CACL-Karnataka will also initiate an awareness programme on journey on Safe Childhood in 15 districts of North Karnataka from November 25 to December 4.
