Now, cameras will keep a watch on the behaviour of the personnel in city police stations.

To reduce the grouse of the public over “rude behaviour” of the police or refusal to file a first information report (FIR), the city police have launched the project to install CCTV cameras in stations.

On a pilot project basis, CCTV cameras have already been installed at Malleswaram, Seshadripuram and Srirampura police stations in the north division. Another 103 police stations across the city will also be covered in a phased manner.

“These cameras are connected to the Police Commissioner’s office from where the activities in stations will be monitored by senior police officials regularly,” Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi told reporters here on Monday.

“Police officers have been accused of inordinate delays in attending to complaints, especially pertaining to crimes against women. Officials have been accused of harassing people and also helping suspects in certain cases. The cameras will bring in transparency,” he said.
