Hussain Day to remember Imam Hussain, referred as to being the symbol of brotherhood and unity of mankind, was observed here on Sunday with religious leaders propagating peace and non-violence.
The programme was organised by the former member of Syndicate and Academic Council of Bangalore University Aga Sultan, to remember Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Mohammed, who was killed with his family members by the forces of Yazid at Karbala in Iraq.
While the religious and community leaders hailed Hussain for his sacrifice and the principles that he stood for, Rev Fr. Ronnie Prabhu S.J. of Karnataka Region Catholic Bishop’s Council drew similarities between Hussain and Jesus Christ. “Hussain’s sacrifice is the triumph over evil. Brotherhood is natural to human beings only if one overcomes evil,” Fr. Prabhu added.
The former Minister Roshan Baig, meanwhile, said: “I never make differentiation between Shias and Sunnis. Fortunately, the sectarian violence that has claimed thousands of lives in neighbouring countries is not present in India.”
Flights
Mr. Baig said that a proposal had been made to the Union Government to start direct flights to Baghdad and Najaf in Iraq from Bangalore. “I am hopeful of receiving a positive response from the Union Government and I am also in touch with the Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh,” he added.
Among those present included general secretary of Majlis-e-Ulema-e-Hind and member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) Moulana Syed Kalbe Jawad Naqvi Saheb, vice-president of All India Milli Council and executive member of AIMPLB Moulana Y.A. Usmani and the former Governor of Assam, Orissa and Jharkand Syed Sibtey Razi.
