Call for Bangalore bandh on Thursday

July 27, 2014 11:17 pm | Updated July 28, 2014 12:05 am IST - Bangalore:

The Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha, along with other Kannada organisations, has called for a bandh in Bangalore on Thursday to protest against increasing crimes against women. Paksha leader Vatal Nagaraj said the bandh — from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. — was to seek stringent action against rapists.

“We will not allow the city to be called a ‘rape city’. Through this bandh, we want to seek public support to fight against this menace,” he said. Protesters will take out a rally to the Chief Minister’s residence and submit a memorandum.

Essential services like hospitals and medical stores will not be affected during the bandh, Mr. Nagaraj said.
