Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation (KVTSDC) launched “Udyogasiri”, a voice portal that connects job-seekers and job providers through a toll-free number.
Inaugurating the portal in Bangalore on Friday, Labour Minister B.N. Bache Gowda said that the pilot project was the first of its kind in the country where a job seekers can call (1800-425-8040) from landline or mobile in Kannada or English.
The information related to qualification, experience and other details of the job-seeker will automatically registered. Subsequently the caller gets updates on the status of the application and if job suitable to him has been spotted.
The Minister said that the platform, created by IBM on public-private-partnership (PPP) model, was particularly aimed at job-seekers from rural areas who do not have easy access to the job market. He said that IBM had invested Rs. 1 crore in the project and KVTSDC has spent Rs. 20 lakh.
For building workers
Mr. Gowda also inaugurated Construction Workers’ Welfare Information Centre, a voice portal started by the Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. The voice platform which can be reached on the toll-free BSNL number (1800-425-2838) provides information on social schemes of the board and information on how to get enrolled in Kannada, English and Hindi. The Minister said that registration with the board had been low because of lack of information and the voice portal would help bridge the gap. Mr. Gowda said that KVTSDC had organised 35 mega job fairs and 186 mini job fairs which had resulted in 4.5 lakh people being provided skill training and 2.8 lakh provided jobs.
