Failing to pay off a debt, a 28-year-old cab driver allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a tree near his house in Hulimavu on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as Nandish.

According to the police, Nandish left home at around 11:30 p.m. to go for a walk near his house after dinner while his uncle stayed back. The suicide came to light when his uncle, Basavaraj, went to check on him and was shocked to see his body hanging from the tree.

During preliminary investigation, the police learnt that Nandish had recently taken a loan and bought a new car. The deceased was in debt and could not pay off the loan owing to which he might have taken the extreme step.

Hulimavu police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating further.
