With the increase in tariff for bulk consumes of Cauvery water, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) will get additional revenue of Rs. 2.5 crore a month.
Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said water tariff had been hiked for bulk consumers such as apartments from July 1, 2013.
BWSSB has been supplying Cauvery water to 11,696 apartments having 2.54 lakh units in the city. Before the tariff hike, BWSSB was collecting Rs. 2.74 crore a month from these apartments.
He said in an attempt to plug leakage of piped water supply, the board had hired the services of L&T to conduct a survey and replace pipes, household water connections and meters in six Assembly constituencies in south Bangalore.
The pilot project would cover 65 to 70 district metering areas in Basavanagudi, Chamarajpet, Padmanabhanagar, Jayanagar, BTM Layout and Bangalore South. The project would be completed by August-end, the Minister said.
